Halimah

Meet Halimah

Halimah lives in Toton, Nottinghamshire close to her sons and their families. A year ago, she became a grandmother to Alaya and has been supporting Alaya’s parents on their feeding journey ever since.

Halimah first became a mother at 22-years-old and was living far away from her friends and family. She attempted to breastfeed each of her three boys, but never breastfed beyond a few weeks. Looking back, she wonders if having more support around her, whether from family but also through access to the right information and professional support could have made a difference. When she found out her son and daughter-in-law were expecting, Halimah knew she wanted to be as supportive as possible, to ensure they were able to breastfeed for as long as the family wanted. Asking them what they needed, Halimah stepped in to cook meals, and take care of her granddaughter between feeds so her daughter-in-law could get some rest. A year on, Alaya is still being breastfed and the bond she has with her grandmother through her supporting Alay’s mother could not be stronger.
